Cemetery.rest is designed for privacy. We do not collect, store, track, or retain user personal data.
This isn't marketing speak. We literally don't have the infrastructure to track you even if we wanted to.
Cemetery.rest does NOT collect:
When you claim a memorial plot, you receive a unique edit key (e.g., "bat482#skull91").
We do not store your edit key.
It is generated, shown to you once, and then deleted from our systems. This is intentional.
If you lose your edit key, we cannot recover it. We have no record of it. This protects your privacy but requires you to safeguard your key.
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc., which supports credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other payment methods.
What Cemetery.rest CAN see through Stripe's merchant dashboard:
Depending on payment method and authorization requirements, additional information may be visible:
Our current practices:
Data retention: Stripe retains transaction records for accounting, tax compliance, and legal requirements. Cemetery.rest does not independently store this personal information - we only reference Stripe's records when legally required (e.g., responding to chargebacks or law enforcement requests).
What we NEVER see:
Payment method specifics:
Stripe securely handles all sensitive payment data. Their privacy policy governs payment information: stripe.com/privacy
Important: Completely anonymous payments are not possible with modern payment processing. Payment networks and financial regulations require some customer data for authorization, fraud prevention, and legal compliance. We've designed Cemetery.rest to minimize what we store, not what we can access.
During plot purchase, you may optionally provide an email address to receive your edit key and deed.
What happens to your email:
Providing an email is completely optional. You can skip it and manually save your edit key.
If legally required (court order, subpoena, warrant), we may provide transaction records to law enforcement.
What we could provide from our access to Stripe:
What we typically CANNOT provide (because it's not in our database):
Stripe has more comprehensive records: Law enforcement can request additional payment and identity details directly from Stripe, which maintains transaction records as required by financial regulations. We can only provide what we can access through our merchant dashboard, which we do not store independently.
Memorial content: If a memorial inscription contains illegal content, we can provide the publicly visible inscription text and plot coordinates, but cannot identify who created it without the edit key.
The inscription text you enter for your memorial (title, subtitle, body text) is:
Do not include personal information you want kept private (phone numbers, addresses, social security numbers, etc.) in your memorial inscription.
Memorial text is public by design - it's a memorial meant to be visited.
When you visit Cemetery.rest through gaming platforms (VRChat, Minecraft, etc.), those platforms have their own privacy policies.
We do not control:
Consult those platforms' privacy policies for their data practices. We only control Cemetery.rest infrastructure - not the platforms you use to visit.
Cemetery.rest is hosted on Cloudflare Pages with a Cloudflare D1 database.
Cloudflare may log basic request data (IP addresses, request times) as part of their infrastructure operations. We do not access or use these logs for tracking.

Under various privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you may have rights to:
At Cemetery.rest, you already have maximum privacy:
Your memorial inscription is public (that's the point), and you can edit it anytime with your edit key.
We cannot have a data breach of user data that doesn't exist.
The only data in our database:
No edit keys stored. No emails stored. No personal information stored.
If our database were compromised, an attacker would get... publicly visible memorial text. That's it.
Cemetery.rest is operated from the United States (Texas).
Since we don't collect personal data, international privacy laws (GDPR, etc.) have minimal application. There's no data to transfer or protect.
Your memorial inscription is stored on US servers and displayed publicly worldwide.
We may update this privacy policy as Cemetery.rest evolves.
Changes will be posted at cemetery.rest/privacy with an updated "Last Updated" date.
Since we don't have your email, we can't notify you of changes. Check back periodically if concerned.
Our commitment to minimal data collection will not change. If we ever plan to collect user data, we'll make this abundantly clear.

Please note: We cannot help you recover lost edit keys, as we don't store them.
Cemetery.rest's privacy approach:
"We see minimal payment data during transactions but don't store your personal information. We can't track you because we don't build profiles or retain identifying data."
What we know during purchase: Postal code, last 4 of card, transaction details
What we store long-term: Your memorial inscription (public), plot coordinates, tombstone preference
What we don't have: Your identity, contact info, browsing history, or ability to connect you to your plot without your edit key
