THE CEMETERY

What is?!

Internet Cemetery.

cemetery.rest - "the cemetery" - is a memorial service. Err- technically a historical society. We're one memorial database on multiple platforms. The cemetery is built to provide unique and immersive spaces for you and the departed.

Privacy by design. No tracking, no profiles, no surveillance. Just memory. Honored.

HOW IT WORKS:

Contribute - Support the archive by donating and receiving a memorial database entry with your inscription.

Secure - A unique key (e.g., "bat482#skull91") allows future modifications. Guard it carefully.

Return - Access the cemetery via web, or VR Chat. Minecraft Server coming soon.

Perpetual Care - Regular database backups. Platform expansions. Routine physical archival.

FAQ:

What am I actually buying when I "buy a plot?"
-You are purchasing the ability to provide content for one row in our cemetery database.

Do I own the plot?
-Nope. You've reserved a space in our memorial database. You can put generally whatever you'd like in this entry; your space is reserved unless you violate cemetery guidelines. The cemetery retains all ownership.

What if I lose my edit key?
-We cannot recover it. We don't store edit keys (privacy by design). Edit keys are encrypted. Guard it carefully. Plots are meant to become "locked" when the holder can no longer able to edit it. It's part of the artistic vision of cemetery.rest.

Can my plot be removed?
-Yes, if content violates community standards (harassment, doxxing, illegal content). No refunds.

What if I want it removed?
-We cannot prove you are the original owner without the edit key. Apologies.

What happens if a platform shuts down?
-Your database entry persists. We'll maintain visualization on available platforms. The data outlasts any single platform.

Is this really perpetual?
-Best-effort. We commit to physical archival, database backups, and long-term maintenance. No service can guarantee eternity, but we're built for it.

Can I put real names on tombstones?
-Only if you're authorized by the estate. That means yes you can put your name. Don't doxx family members. Respect privacy. See our Rules & Regulations for details.

What about a celebrity?
-Due to the turbulent nature of popular culture, This will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Can I buy a plot and put my pet's name?
-We encourage it! We're mainly worried about respecting the privacy of the living and the next-of-kin for humans.

Can I buy a plot and put something that isn't really related to... well anything here?
-Just try to be respectful of neighboring plots. Your plot may not be shown on some platforms at the groundskeeper's discresssion.

Can I represent my avatar from [game] somehow?
-Right now we have no automatic infrastructure for such a thing. This could be under a custom tombstone or crypt request. Reach out!
